Sint Maarten

Saint Martin's Day is celebrated on November 11 in parts of Belgium, the Netherlands, northern France, some German-speaking areas, Portugal and Hungary.

It is the name day of Martin of Tours and is also called Sint-Martinus, Sinte-Marten, Sinter Merte or Sinte-Mette. Sint Maarten became known because as a soldier he gave half of his cloak to a poor beggar and after a dream chose to continue living as a Christian. The interpretation given to this festival differs from region to region.
